Much of the North Island’s fantastic fly-fishing is on rivers that start on the Central Plateau – a large elevated region in the volcanic centre of this big island.
Unlike in the South Island, many of the lakes and lower tributaries of the central North Island rivers have an open fishing season. So there is excellent fishing available no matter what time of year you come to New Zealand to fish for trout. Most of the lodges also stay open all year, so you have choice there too.
